Nonco is a pioneering institutional digital asset trading firm operating with a unique non-custodial model that integrates counterparty risk management, settlement optimization, and robust operational frameworks. We are building the next-generation crypto brokerage where human expertise, risk discipline, and world-class technology converge.

Role Overview

This is an engineering role embedded in operations and trading. You will take over existing internal tooling (Python scripts, SQL pipelines, dashboards, monitors) and rebuild them into fully automated, auditable, and resilient systems. You are expected to actively use AI—from code generation and data analysis to building intelligent monitoring and decision-support systems—as a multiplier for speed and quality. Your core output is code, not spreadsheets.

The ideal candidate is a software engineer or data engineer who has spent time in a trading firm, brokerage, or financial services environment. You know what a trading desk does, how settlement works, what counterparty exposure means, and why reconciliation matters—and you want to solve all of it with technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Automation & Systems Engineering

  • Identify, design, and build automated solutions for manual or semi-manual processes across Operations and Trading.
  • Re-architect existing internal tooling into production-grade systems with proper logging, alerting, error recovery, and self-diagnostics.
  • Build and maintain automated pipelines for reconciliation, trade capture validation, position tracking, PnL generation, and exposure reporting—with zero or near-zero manual intervention.
  • Design and deploy real-time monitoring and alerting frameworks that surface anomalies and exceptions proactively.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code. The bar is engineering-grade output.

AI-Driven Development

  • Use AI tools (LLMs, code assistants, AI-powered analysis) as part of your daily engineering workflow to accelerate development, improve code quality, and solve problems faster.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI into operational processes—intelligent alerting, anomaly detection, pattern recognition, automated classification, and decision support.
  • Stay current with AI tooling and frameworks, continuously finding new ways to apply them to trading operations challenges.

Trading & Operations Support

  • Work hand-in-hand with the trading desk and operations team to understand their daily workflows, pain points, and manual bottlenecks.
  • Build programmatic risk controls including intraday exposure monitoring, counterparty limit tracking, and settlement-timing analysis.
  • Automate pre- and post-trade processes, detecting timing mismatches and potential failures without manual oversight.

Integration & Scalability

  • Lead technical integrations with new exchanges, market-makers, and settlement platforms.
  • Build and maintain exchange API connectors, data ingestion pipelines, and downstream reporting feeds.
  • Design systems that scale—every new counterparty or venue should plug into existing frameworks, not generate new manual work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the technical counterpart to Trading and Operations, translating business needs into automated solutions.
  • Liaise with Finance for settlement, cash movements, and month-end close—automating touchpoints wherever possible

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 2–5 years of professional software engineering or data engineering experience, with at least 2 years spent in or directly supporting a trading firm, brokerage, market-maker, hedge fund, or financial services company.
  • Strong programming ability in Python—building production systems, not scripts. Experience with data pipelines, API integrations, and automation frameworks.
  • Advanced SQL skills: complex queries, data modeling, pipeline optimization.
  • Demonstrated, active use of AI tools in your engineering workflow (e.g., LLM-assisted coding, AI-powered analysis, prompt engineering). This is not optional—we expect AI to be a core part of how you work.
  • Hands-on understanding of how a trading desk operates, including trade lifecycles, settlement processes, and counterparty exposure. You don't need to have been a trader—but you need to understand the business deeply enough to automate it.
  • Experience working with exchange APIs, trading systems, OMS/EMS, or risk platforms.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration, job scheduling, or event-driven architectures (e.g., Airflow, Celery, cron-based pipelines).
  • Builder mentality: you see a manual process and your instinct is to eliminate it.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working alongside traders, risk managers, and senior leadership.
  • Advanced English required.

Preferred

  • Experience in crypto trading, market-making, brokerage, or FX environments.
  • Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar monitoring and observability tools.
  • Understanding of blockchain asset flows, stablecoin mechanics, and exchange settlement.
  • Experience designing real-time reconciliation or risk monitoring systems from scratch.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into production workflows (anomaly detection, classification, NLP).
  • Background with controls frameworks (SOX-like, operational risk policies, exception governance).
  • Experience with containerization, CI/CD, or infrastructure-as-code.
