The Opportunity
Ohalo Genetics is seeking a skilled and motivated Greenhouse Repairs & Maintenance Lead to join our growing team. This position involves the maintenance and upkeep of the greenhouse facility dedicated to plant research. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity, functionality, and cleanliness of these environments to support ongoing scientific endeavors.
Responsibilities
Greenhouse Maintenance:
- Check HortiMax Environmental Control System daily for alarms and address any operational issues
- Inspect, repair, and maintain the structural components of the greenhouse, including evaporative cooling system, insect screens and ventilation systems.
- Troubleshoot and address issues related to heating, cooling, and irrigation systems to maintain optimal plant growing conditions.
- Monitor and maintain greenhouse equipment, including boilers, fan motors and shutters, rack and pinions, pumps, sprayers, etc
- Verify water storage tank functions properly including acid injection pump.
- Ensure the backup generator is functional and exercises on a regular schedule.
- Collaborate with external contractors for major repairs or modifications to the greenhouse structure.
- Regularly clean and sanitize the greenhouse to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
- Check walk-in coolers so that proper temperature and humidity is maintained at all times.
General Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections of office space and facility infrastructure, identifying maintenance needs, safety concerns, and repairs.
- Collaborate with team members to implement improvements in maintenance protocols and processes.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols when working in both greenhouse and laboratory settings.
Documenting and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment servicing.
- Document observations, interventions, and maintenance tasks following established protocols.
- Generate reports summarizing maintenance tasks, issues, and resolutions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or relevant certifications in maintenance or related fields preferred.
- Previous experience in greenhouse maintenance preferred, particularly in plant research settings.
- Familiarity with greenhouse equipment, irrigation systems, and plant care practices.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing electrical work and maintenance
- Experience performing construction work and maintenance
- Growing plug plants in a production environment
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, humidity, sunlight, and potentially hazardous substances.

The anticipated pay range that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $67,000 - $85,000 per year. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience, education, skillset, and other relevant qualifications. This range is for our Watsonville, CA location.
