Overview: The Senior Database Specialist is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise-level databases and analytical environments. This role requires extensive experience with SQL (Postgres), MongoDB, and analytical tools such as Tableau and Power BI. Knowledge of healthcare data standards is preferred. The specialist will collaborate across engineering, product, and analytics teams to ensure accurate, secure, and scalable data operations.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management & Engineering

  • Design, implement, and optimize relational database structures in Postgres.
  • Develop advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning solutions.
  • Manage MongoDB collections, indexing, performance, and document schema strategy.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Build and maintain dashboards using Tableau and Power BI.
  • Translate business and product requirements into meaningful data visualizations.
  • Ensure data reliability, accuracy, and accessibility for reporting needs.

Data Architecture & Integration

  • Support database modeling, data warehousing, and architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline optimization.
  • Monitor database performance, security, and capacity.

Healthcare Data (Preferred)

  • Work with healthcare data formats: HL7 v2, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA.
  • Experience with medical coding systems such as ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, CPT/HCPCS.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred but not required).
  • 5-7 years of experience in database engineering or data management roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Postgres administration.
  • Strong experience with MongoDB (schema design, indexing, optimization).
  • Proven experience with Tableau and/or Power BI dashboard development.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and database best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare IT or interoperability environments.
  • Knowledge of clinical standards and terminologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and associated data services.
  • Exposure to integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect).
