The Director of Media Planning is a senior strategic leader responsible for guiding multi-channel media strategy across domestic and international markets. This role blends analytical rigor with creative thinking to develop full-funnel, data-driven media plans that drive meaningful business growth. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, lead cross-functional team collaboration, mentor junior talent, and help shape the development of proprietary tools and attribution models. In addition, you will play a key role in new business through compelling storytelling and strategic pitching.
While this role is remote, frequent travel and accommodating meetings in various US time zones is expected.
What does a Director, Media Planning do at Rain?
Strategic Media Leadership
- Lead the development of multi-channel media strategies that drive measurable business growth
- Oversee planning across channels including Linear TV, CTV, YouTube, Audio, Print, OOH, Social, and Search
- Plan and manage a mix of national and local campaigns focused on both brand and performance KPIs, with reach and frequency as core metrics.
- Guide media planning and execution across domestic and international markets
- Use proprietary and third-party data to target audiences effectively and shape strategic recommendations
- Analyze response data and attribution model outputs to inform ongoing optimizations and future planning
Client Relationship & Thought Leadership
- Build strong client relationships by demonstrating curiosity, passion for their business, and a strategic perspective on budget allocation
- Present campaign results and actionable recommendations to client stakeholders
- Apply a full-funnel approach to campaign evaluation and storytelling
- Share insights and learnings across the Media Planning team
- Develop and pitch innovative media ideas that expand clients’ media footprints
- Communicate clearly and persuasively in written objectives, strategies, and points of view
- Support the development of junior team members
- Foster strong cross-department partnerships
Technology & Innovation
- Learn, utilize, and actively contribute to the development of proprietary agency tools, technology platforms, and attribution models to maximize campaign performance
Business Development
- Prepare and deliver compelling media strategy pitches for new business
- Quickly ramp up on new business categories and competitive landscapes
- Leverage data-driven storytelling to communicate a clear and strategic narrative
What do we look for in a Director, Media Planning at our agency?
- At least 10 years of experience in agency media planning
- Expertise in cross channel planning
- Experience planning domestically and internationally
- Familiarity with the accelerated growth goals of entrepreneurial clients
- Highly analytical and data-driven, with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel
- Experience with Nielsen/Comscore, R/F planning and reporting, Commspoint, iSpot, Competitive Tracking Tools, MRI (or similar tools)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Stays on top of current trends, and willing to take calculated risks
- Strong leader, coach, and mentor who invests in developing talent
- Experience and enthusiasm for contributing to new business pitches
- Values relationships at all levels, treats others with dignity and respect (team player)
