Junior Field Scientist
We are looking for a Junior Field Scientist to support field operations and research trials in Assis - SP. This role will assist with data collection and organization for soil solid, soil porewater, climate, rock powder and crop performance, and help maintain experimental equipment such as soil moisture sensors, lysimeters, and weather stations.
This position is ideal for someone with a background in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Sciences, or related fields, who enjoys hands-on work and is interested in applied science and sustainability.
Location: Assis – SP
Languages: Portuguese (English at an intermediate level preferred)
Role Responsibilities:
Support field science activities in commercial fields and R&D experimental pilots and help implement agricultural trials and experiments.
Assist with data collection and organization related to soil porewater, climate conditions, rock powder and crop performance (biomass and yield).
Help install, maintain, and monitor field equipment (e.g., soil sensors, lysimeters, weather stations).
Prepare soil, water, rock and crop samples for laboratory shipment.
Follow scientific protocols and accurately record field activities.
Communicate with scientists and project managers in basic technical English, with support from the team.
Work collaboratively with field and science teams.
Background & Requirements:
Master's degree (or bachelor's with strong experience) in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, or a related field.
Previous experience in fieldwork on agricultural trials.
Basic understanding of field data collection related to soil, soil pore water, and crops.
Familiarity with field sensors and instruments is a plus.
Ability to read and write basic technical English.
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to data quality.
Valid driver's license and availability to travel to rural field sites frequently (70% of the time) .
Nice to have:
Hold a MSc degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Soil Science or related fields
Familiarity with field equipment/sensor calibration
Familiarity with the interpretation of soil/agronomic data
Personal attributes:
Actively support the field team in collecting high-quality data.
Independently solve practical logistics issues during fieldwork.
Maintain clear communication with technical staff.
Follow protocols and adapt methods based on scientific guidance.
